Shop floors are always blocked with cages, bakery always half empty, sandwiches days out of date, stock rotation is unheard of, no staff available to assist. Dismal really! Hopefully Sainsburys opens soon

For a small but very convenient local store with self-serving tills, this Co-op is ideal for the 'running out' things and some nice extras for Friday nights and croissants for Saturday mornings. Fresh fruit & veg, too.

I used to depend on getting vegan ready meals here but they seem to have stopped selling them altogether. The tickets for them remain. I asked the staff and they didn't seem to know if they were going to come back.

The layout is confusing and badly designed. Every time I visit there are at least 3 or 4 of those large cages full of supplies blocking the aisles (you would struggle to get round the store with a buggy or in a wheelchair).

Staff are always stacking the shelves in the way of customers but mainly just chatting and seem oblivious. On a few occasions they’ve acted like the customer is the inconvenience or just invisible to them- they aren’t actively rude just seem to have no sense of how a well organised store should run.
The self service tills are often closed for some reason.

Whilst people moan for their one off experiences, I am a well seasoned reviewer and wanted to take a moment to say a thank you and well done to the Church Road Coop staff.

My partner, daughter and I have been living close by for 7 years now and am always happy with the service and staff there. Nicky (not sure of the spelling) the manager is always friendly and professional. In all the years I have been she always has a smile, never a bad word to say, is fair and an expert at dealing with all the locals.

I arrived at 1 minute before closing and she let me in to grab some bread and porridge (not that she new that).

Thank you Nicky, your too kind!

Shaun

Good and bad. The shelves are often empty for days at time - staff say due to stocktaking system errors or delivery truck issues. The good is they have fresh vegetables and fruit and fresh baked cakes and breads in the morning. I understand it is a tough store to staff and manage. It has a wide range of customers from high class Hove to late night party drinkers. Managers don't seem to last long. They sometimes have feedback evenings where a few customers are invited to give feedback - so they are trying to improve and to be honest they have a wide range and a reasonable supply of veggie food. Get the coop loyalty card which gives you 5% back on everything you spend.

I Paid DPD to drop off two small parcels at the Church Road shop. I went to the shop to deposit the parcels and was refused the drop off service by the clearly unbothered manager because, according to her, there was not enough room to put the parcels. I could see a good amount of room to place these two very small (50cm long/14cm wide) parcels. The manager in charge was about as dismissive as one can be and clearly didn't care at all about the predicament this put me in, having paid for the drop off service and being unable to return to the store the next day, as I explained.

This is truly terrible customer service, and I can see is clearly a result of a complete lack of planning as to Coop handle more than a dozen or so parcels at your drop off point. Thanks for wasting my time and money, I won’t be back, and I will be steering others away from this ridiculous service.

Now go and plan your space for DPD drop offs an train your management on how to think about customer service from the customer point of view.
