I had a great afternoon at Goring Gap Boat Club for a charity event supporting Sport in Mind. It was run very well by the staff so would get five stars on that day.

however as a club to join it is very expensive as you have to have a membership. They did have a reduced rate for people on low income benefits which I still thought was very expensive.

There was no mention of reduced prices for people on disability benefits which I thought was a bit strange considering they were supporting a mental health charity on that day.

Also for the money that you are paying a year to join this club there seemed very little choice in the type of boats you could take out, they didn't have any individual kayaks or canoes. so if you turned up on your own, you would be very limited in choice in what you could do. They did have a lot of skinny row boats, some for individual people but they were incredibly long and unwieldy so if you had any sort of problem with any part of your body, you would probably not be able to carry them to the water. I have personally seen much shorter versions of what they had on my local canal which would be more user-friendly.

I may have considered to go to this club if they had done a day entry ticket as I really enjoyed the day there. I can't see that I personally would go to this club very often and for the expensive fee they are asking as a membership it would not be worthwhile.

There were proper toilets facilities however no disabled access to the toilets, as they were up a steep flight of steps with no ramp. There's also a kitchen, gym and meeting room upstairs in the building under construction that also would not have disabled access.

I did not see any showers or get offended any showers while at the site, so if you fall in the river/canal, you can't wash off before going home or out to another location which is a bit of a deal breaker if your not local to the site.

This site is not catered for anybody with a disability or injury that stops you lifting anything large or heavy based on the Boats that you can take out.

I will say everybody at the club is unbelievably nice and if you're looking for group rowing and your physically fit, then this was a spectacular looking location to do this. There's also opportunities for you to volunteer to repair or fix things on the site, if your skilled in those fields.

To sum up, great site, great people, spectacular aspect, however comes at a high cost, does not suit an individual person and would not suit someone that is not physically fit, able or has any disability.
