I used Adams as I want to support a local shop, avoid internet shopping where there is a local alternative and keep them in business. In return for this I do not expect much except a please when asking for money and eye contact. Instead the person on the till did not look up from her book but stated the price (£8.99 as you ask) and then started talking to another employee who also ignored me. I left without any courtesy extended to me for walking through the rain on a wet November day, after work to spend my hard-earned money in their shop which pays their wages. They are competing with 2 supermarkets, and a 3rd one opening soon in Crediton plus internet shopping.They need to understand customer service if they are going to survive.

Having returned a combination lock within an hour of me purchasing it due to it not locking, I was left in no doubt by two male employees that the lock was working and I was an idiot, in fact the customer who had returned it before I bought it was also an idiot. The individual on the back till also could not get it to work and said I'd messed it up. And 'the whole rigmarole' would have to be gone through to get it reset. It takes seconds to reset, and I stood and watched as the employee failed to get the lock to actually lock. It was however, still my fault. I can assure your staff quite strongly that I am not an idiot, I did not mess it up and the lock I purchased elsewhere to replace the one I returned to yourselves was working with a new code that I programmed within seconds. As an independent business in a small town I would have thought alienating and insulting customers was not an intelligent way to increase footfall. I would suggest you take some time to educate your staff on 'customer service', and even if they think a customer is an idiot - other insulting terms are available to use, - then they keep it to themselves until the customer has left the shop. I will be going elsewhere in future.

The most important shop in Crediton, Adams are a Crediton institution. Very helpful staff, good stock and great banter. Recommended!

A fantastic old school hardware store increasesingly rare and well worth visiting, will most likely have what you need. A gem. Don't B an Q it!

Great old style hardwear store. Very helfull staff all ways ready to help you find what you want and somtimes tell you what you actually need rather than what you think you need. Great to be able to buy the 6 screws you need rather then have to buy 20 in a pack.

Nice shop usually have what you need. Very helpful. Always go out there way to help a real asset to the town.

Went to this shop with my partner bought a couple of low priced items , we made our way to checkout . There was a polite young lady at the checkout and i payed for the items with a £20 note , i was given the change for a ten pound note . We had not left the shop and and said to the young girl at the till that i had payed with a £20 note ( an easy mistake to make ,we are all human ) . The lady owner was called , and rudely spoke to me a practically accused me of not paying with a twenty pound note ,but a 10 pound note ,when all i had in my wallet was 20s . She accused me of being rude to her grandaughter on the till , so i asked the checkout operator if i was rude to her in front of her grandmother ,of which she replied " No i wasnt rude at all " . The owner then obnoxiously said i would have to wait whilst they checked the till ( to check i was telling the truth or not ) Me and my partner waited patiently outside for around 15 mins for the outcome . The grandfather ( other owner ) came outside to meet us and to give me the refund and to clarify that i had payed with a £20 note , a polite but embaressed owner ,that had to come out a appologies for the mistake and his wifes very rude attitude and poor management skills . He went to say sorry for his grandaughters mistake , which i wouldnt accept ......as we all make mistakes and we all have to start and learn somewhere ..........but there was no excuse for the female owners lack of professionalism and terrible attitude with dealing with such matters. Because of her i will not spend my money in this shop and now use other hardware shops within the Crediton area .

It's like a step back in time. I keep expecting to see Tom Baker (classic Dr who) and Sarah Jane (THE best ever!) to pop round one of the shelving units. Love it.
