Impressive cathedral. Easy to walk around plenty of interesting features. Only negative, didn't seem to be a lot of information "boards" around the cathedral on features. Only £5 to enter, good value for entry donation. Good cafe and reasonably priced. Would recommend

Apart from the glorious structure and well maintained organ and pipes,
The interesting Red brick is something i need to research.
Like the city walls,
You don't see these bricks very often, but it's was the stained glass windows that was my main attraction.

St Jude, for all who have seen man on fire?
Is the patron saint of lost causes.

Visiting Chester Cathedral for the first time was a striking experience—one that lingers long after stepping outside its ancient walls. The choir stalls, some of the finest in England, held a tangible sense of time worn into every carved detail.

What stood out most wasn’t just the architecture, but the blend of the sacred and the human. Modern art installations sat beside medieval tombs; signs of an active, adaptive space rather than a museum frozen in time. The cloisters offered a moment of calm, while the gardens hinted at the peaceful rhythm of monastic life.

It wasn’t a place that screamed for attention—it whispered, and I listened. Chester Cathedral left me reflective, slightly in awe, and with a new appreciation for the layers of history and meaning a single structure can hold. I walked out not just having seen something beautiful, but having felt something real.

I highly recommend the Rooftop Tour of the Chester Cathedral. Matt, our 5 star guide, was awesome! It is obvious that he is knowledgeable and loves his job. You do have to reserve ahead of your visit to save your place. There are a lot of steps to the top so be in good shape. The tour was one of my trip highlights. Thanks Matt!

A Beautiful Blend of Art, History, and Whimsy!
My visit to **Chester Cathedral** was absolutely delightful! The highlight was seeing the stunning **Peace Dove** art installation—its intricate design and symbolic meaning made the experience truly special. The cathedral itself is breathtaking, with its awe-inspiring architecture and rich history that transports you back in time.

One of the loveliest surprises was the peaceful **garden**, where I discovered a charming sculpture and—to my joy—**Paddington Bear** sitting on a bench, happily enjoying his marmalade sandwich! Such a fun and unexpected touch that brought a smile to my face.

Whether you're here for the art, the history, or just a serene stroll, Chester Cathedral is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Really lovely building, and much bigger inside than I thought it would be! My partner isn't interested in places like this but his opinion had changed by the time we'd left.
It's free to explore but donations are welcomed - I will say that it sort of felt like a requirement rather than a choice as when you enter there's a lot of insistence from the staff, signs and barriers and it felt quite money orientated, but nevertheless we would've left a donation anyway due to how much we did enjoy it. I just hope it doesn't put future visitors off as it didn't feel too welcoming before we'd actually entered. However staff inside were great, we loved the lego and the 2 lovely gentleman explaining it all to us. The gardens were gorgeous even in the rain, the organs are really something to admire too. We stopped for food and drinks in the cafe, staff were also warm and welcoming here - our 6yr old really recommends the kids hot chocolate! We would recommend to anyone visiting the area that the cathedral is a must see 🙂

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen! I normally don't like churches and such, but this place is beautiful and full of history! The entrance is free, but donations are welcome.

I recommend doing a tour for people who are more interested in the history.

Don't miss out on the garden, the door is a bit hidden. And the door handle has the be pushed up otherwise it won't open.

There is also a café next to the gift shop.
