I went to this book store with my 8 years old son after reading the lovely reviews. Found the books we wanted but the staff were not friendly at all. I got one word answers for my attempts to strike a conversation. They were shelving the books and made us feel we were in the way. Couldn’t get us out of the store more quicker! So much for the effort to support local businesses.

I had a terrible experience at Chorleywood Bookshop. One of the employees assured us we could get a refund for a book my young daughter bought as a gift for her older brother, but when we returned two days later, they refused. They pointed to a notice on the counter, which was completely covered with leaflets and had to be cleared just to show it to me. Instead of taking responsibility for the fact that the notice was hidden, they blamed other customers for covering it up.

The manager and another staff member were incredibly rude and unprofessional, even after I explained that their own employee had promised the refund. What made it even worse was how upset my daughter was when she didn’t get her money back. This place has zero regard for customer service, and I will never shop here again. Very disappointing for a local shop to be acting this way.

Five stars isn't enough! It's a great bookshop in a delightful little village setting but the qualities which elevate this place to another level are the level of service they offer and the fabulous events they host in the area. We live a fair distance away, but don't mind the travel, when you feel genuinely valued as a customer and are rewarded with exemplary customer service. Restores the faith! Love what you do!!

With online discount retailers it's a hard marketplace for small independent bookshops, the Chorleywood Bookshop has thrived by giving the personal touch, they carefully curate their stock and know their customers so can make recommendations. In addition to book signings they arrange for authors to come and speak, and these talks have become so established they attract big names and large audiences. The CW bookshop is a pleasure to visit and deserves its success.

Great little book shop. So nice to have one in the village. Have special event days and recently saw the Graffalo there with my daughter. Lovely cozy shop.

I have never been so disappointed in a book shop, than I have been in this one. My partner and I have gone to quite a few local bookshops in Hertfordshire and they have all been more than happy to support a local author. Firstly the manager acted like we were crazy to think we could just walk in and ask if she could stock a copy of my partner's book. She also took one look at the book and the first thing she said was I don't recognise the publisher. I honestly believe if it had been a publisher she recognised she would have been more open to stocking the book. In my opinion she came across very elitists and as soon as she heard it was a mental health memoir, she was very dismissive and said this is not the right fit for our shop. Though they are happy to support celebrities and their memoirs, which I noticed on their shelves. Though I'm sure if this exact same book was written by someone famous she would have it all over their shelves!!

Lovely staff. Very welcoming. Great range of books for young and old. If they don't have what you want they will do their very best to find it for you. Not just books. Bought a lovely little candle from their display.
