On Jan 6th 2020, I spent a day tracking drums at Voice of Drums Studio for my new album under the artist name of "Motherhood and Apple Pie". The next day I had completed the initial mixes of the drum tracks and I am very pleased with the results.

I had arranged for a friend of mine (Mike Coltman) to track drums on several of the tracks. Mike recommended Voice of Drums Studio as a place to complete the tracking as he had been a student of the owner (Terl Bryant) a few years ago and had experience at this facility.

The Voice of Drums Studio facility is a very intimate and peaceful environment. It has many great drum kits and percussion instruments available and the room sounds fantastic. For me personally, great kits + good room and mics + a good environment = great results when capturing a performance. For me, Voice of Drums Studio delivered this in every way. Terl has installed dampening curtains that can be removed and for the genre I had at the time, I chose to keep the curtains as needed more of a closed drum sound.

On arrival, we were greeted very warmly by Terl and immediately offered refreshments and a quick tour of the facility along with all that was available for us to use during the session. Terl is very capable in doing the engineering side of things however on this occasion, I was engineering as I chose to use my own laptop and interfaces. Terl talked me through what the mics were and their associated patching and was a very easy experience.

I have known of Terl and his work for 30yrs (friend of friends) but only met him in passing a couple of times in the early/mid 90's, practically making me a complete stranger to him. During our breaks and Terl's gracous hospitality, I got to know Terl a little and he is a wonderful and gentle host as well as being a fantastic drummer and percussionist. He made us feel very much at home during our a day and even dropped a phone call to make us his priority to keep our session moving. He's a very down to earth chap and very easy to get on with.

Needless to say the results from the day are excellent and I would definitely use Voice of Drums Studio to track drums and percussion again.

As a producer and mix engineer, I get loads of drum tracks of a dizzying variety in for mixes... They're usually dull, sometimes poorly recorded, and often without proper balance in the playing. The tracks I got from Terl recently were among the best I've ever had sent in for a mix... Tight, great feel, wonderfully tracked and played with conviction and brilliant touch. Terl is a world class drummer and is an outstanding addition to any track or album... Highly recommended!!!

We spent a week in this studio with Terl recording new percussion material for Trinity College London that Inspire-works Facilitators had written. Every day we brought in a different set of instruments - African djembes & dununs, Brazilian samba instruments, Japanese taiko drums, Caribbean steel pans & pipe snare drums. Terl recorded everything with expert precision and ease and the end product was fantastic! The atmosphere at the beautiful studio is wonderful. Thoroughly recommend this studio!
