Buyers Beware! This now has a positive ending!

I’m going to give a balanced and honest review of my buying experience with this dealership.

I’d looked at some reviews which were good and not so good so clearly not all of their services are poor otherwise I wouldn’t have travelled 90 miles to view a car they had for sale.

I attended the dealership on the 9th of June and the salesman I dealt with was friendly and patient. The original car I had seen wasn’t quite the one I was looking for (petrol model), but I did see another vehicle near it, (electric), that did tick most if not all of the boxes I was looking for in a car.

I test drive both vehicles and wanted some time to consider which one, if either, was for us. Just as I was leaving the dealership the salesman rang me to inform me that his sales manager had offered me to place a £99 deposit that would hold either vehicle for a short time until I made a decision.

The deposit was explained as fully refundable in the event I chose not to proceed with the sale. I was informed there was another interested buyer and this would save the car being purchased in the interim time.

The next stage was to get my wife to test drive both vehicles and once home I rang the salesman to say please reserve the electric car as my wife and I would travel to the dealership to do another test drive. I informed the salesman that we weren’t proceeding with the interest in the petrol model and asked for the deposit to hold the electric model until my wife could view it that weekend.

On Friday, the day before the anticipated viewing, my wife’s father was rushed to hospital and was admitted overnight with my wife at his bedside. First thing on Saturday morning I rang the salesman to advise him visiting that day may prove difficult, however an opportunity to still visit for a short period of time became available and I rang the dealership to tell them we could still visit that day as agreed.

The salesman sent me an e mail saying the electric model “now had a customer on it” and sent a link with a brand new electric model on it that wasn’t the specification or model I was after. My own thoughts are that the electric car had already been sold in the interim time of my placing the deposit down on the Monday.

And remember the petrol car that had an imminent interested party wanting to purchase it? We’ll surprise surprise, it’s still for sale some 3 weeks later.

The real rub in this is 17 days after I placed the deposit and 3 phone calls and 2 emails later, I still haven’t had my £99 deposit refunded.

2 days ago the manager of the dealership, Frank, rang to offer a full and well frank apology, no pun intended! Frank accepted that there had been a breakdown in communication and was sincere in his call to me. Had I not sourced another car in the interim time I would have trusted him to manage a second visit to the dealership for us.

Things can and do go wrong and it’s how a service provider reacts that’s key. Since Franks call the monies been refunded and I do believe the dealership will be stronger for this.
