It seems every time I visit there is out of date food on the shelves, today green style yogurt that was a week out of date, not one pot, almost a full tray.
Last time it was fresh porridge. Before that cheese and fresh orange juice.

The meal was good but I had a bad customer service experience with regard to a Dine In meal. I also pointed out that 2 offers were incorrect. 1 bag of Granny smith apples is £2 but the offer then says 2 bags for £4.... 4 apples for £1.80 then in smaller writing each apple 30p. Now I'm not a mathematician but 4 x 30p is £1.20....bargain. when I went in a week later the first apple offer was the same. I told a manager and she didn't really seem too concerned saying that's how they are printed off..

Love the new store…. Excellent food choices, staff are helpful and friendly, looks great. Easy to park too. Sad that the town centre store had to close, it meant so much to so many people in Barnsley …. It would be great to see M&S back in the town centre ☺️

Disappointed with this new store so far. It looks very smart and there's lots of choice. Unfortunately it's not easy to get around, especially for anyone with a wheelchair or pram. The aisles are narrow anyway and the fridge doors open into them so space is already restricted. This is being made much worse by the way the way the in store team is stocking the shelves - rather than bringing out a trolley of stock, unloading it and then putting it away, empty stock trolleys are being left around on the shop floor. Add into this customers trying to get around with their own trolleys and it's an accessibility nightmare. Hopefully these are teething troubles and things will improve.

Second visit to this store. Yesterday on 21/12/23 we were expecting to get our Christmas shopping done with some special treats from M&S. The first time we visited about 2 weeks prior to this we were disappointed with the cramped feeling of the shop. The floor is littered with baskets under the refrigerated cabinets on both sides of the aisles resulting in very little space to manoeuvre trolleys. This limited space caused obstructions and congestion. The result was that you were continually being asked to move out of the way to let others pass. It wasn't very easy to stop and make selections. It felt like you were in a Sales environment with people jostling you continually. This is not the luxury experience that you would expect from a M&S store. Aldi and Tesco do not give a similar experience. Also we noticed many short dates on about 50% of the products in the fresh or chilled sections.
When we returned to the shop on 21/12/23, we had a similar experience. We were expecting to make this the last shop before Christmas. However all party foods like Sausage rolls and Pork Pies either had an expiry date on 21/12/23 or 22/12. I mentioned this to both staff and manager who both didn't seem bothered. I asked who would buy Sausage rolls and pork pies that had to be eaten that day or next day. Neither seemed bothered and offered up a justification for palming off and clearing out the short dated products before being interested in offering the Christmas Shopers a better choice in terms of expiry dates. There are many items in the store in the chilled section with short dates probably between 30 - 50 % of what I was looking for. I am disappointed that I couldn't do my Christmas Shop on 21st due to these short dated products which I was not willing to accept and which didn't suit my requirements. Incidentally we went to Aldi on the same day. There was no really short dated products on their shelves and if there were there was a greater choice of expiry dates available as well. Their Sausage rolls and Pork pies all had dates of 27th or 29th December. It appeared that no one that shopped at Aldi had the same customer experience that I had at M& S Foodhall Barnsley. Also the trip around the store wasn't cramped and you weren't being jostled while making your choices. It wasn't conjested but it was busy with Christmas Shoppers all managing to find what they wanted without having to plan a return visit. All the tills at the Aldi Shop were manned and busy.
I have to conclude that M& S Foodhall Barnsley doesn't offer a luxury experience at all.

A little bit more expensive for much better food. M&S food is the best. I just wish they hadn’t gotten rid of those wonderfully big carrier bags they used to have, because those paper things are horrible. Are you listening M&S? Your new bags are HORRIBLE!!! Bring back the plastic ones that you can use time and time again.

When first opened the bakery was well stocked with lots of lovely and different things now it’s virtually empty just full of your standard loafs and a few crusty pretzels. Why bother with having the bakery if you’re not going to try?

Excellent range of products, very friendly staff, the prices are not the cheapest but the quality is definitely better than likes of the "big 4"
