My first and last visit. Paying £20+ for a ticket to a venue in Central Manchester to see a legendary DJ play on his final tour I was expecting something a little more pleasing. Initial enthusiasm after a fast, friendly and efficient entry procedure soon waned as we descended into the hot, sticky subterranean hollow. The limited bar wasn't too bad but after I found my £14 for 2 Peroni and 2 bottles of water has gone to the 'Deaf Society' from my bank account. Take nothing away from the sweaty, heaving crowd, very friendly, but from then on it just got hotter and hotter and stickier and stickier. Countless people were complaining of the heat and no air to breath. The early exit came as the sound system on our right hand side of the room kept cutting out. I'm guessing from the amplifiers over heating, as well as us! 10pm till 4am was the planned duration but we managed to put up with the steaming cauldron until 1am when we initially went for air to breath outside but couldn't bring ourselves to go back in. Glad I was there to support Menno, sad the experience wasn't a fun one.

The coolest club in Manchester if you love indie music. Saturday nights are all about Manchester tunes in a friendly relaxed atmosphere where no one judges you. Everyone just goes there to enjoy the music.

Not impressed. £20 to get in for NYE and it really wasn’t worth it. It was a nice vibe but not worth £20 on the door. Drink prices were extortionate also. I was charged over £20 for 2 drinks. I was then refused entry later on in the night for apparently being too intoxicated. I was walking fine and speaking coherently so I really don’t understand the issue. It was New Year’s Eve for God’s sake. Despite this I didn’t cause any issues but asked if I could have any money back as I had just spent £40 for me and my friend to be refused entry. My request was laughed at and they refused. Rude door staff and an absolute joke of an establishment.

Clint Boon is a legend! Brilliant night in South last Saturday. The music was awesome and Clint kept the place rocking all night. There was absolutely no let up - one great tune after another! Loved it!

Love it although not been for a while, you can dance just as badly to all the classic 80s and 90s indie you danced to at The Hacienda, 5th Ave and 42nd street all those years ago.

Big up to the kids that get it and havnt been swayed by all this modern crap rap and RnB bullshit.

Clint is still the Manc Farsla legend and a throughly decent bloke not sure why the Inspirals were never bigger than they were.

Mc Tunes still owes me a pint 🤣

Back in the day circa 1996 - 2006 it used to be really good and a bit of a hangout for Mancunian musicians/actors and the beautiful people of this glorious city.

I called in for the first time in over a decade recently and it seems that the clued up clientele have long gone, seemingly replaced by mainly middle aged men on the way back from a Jacamo convention. I might have just caught it on a bad night.

Absolutely ruined staff, do not go! waste & gone down hill, negative & sad atmosphere, I have been going to south for like 4 years now, i use to love the positive vibes, i know a few of the bouncers and bar staff, i haven’t been for a few months and went last weekend with 2 of my girl friends, to which 1 of my friends didn’t get served, apparently wasn’t sober enough for a drink so we asked for a drink of water for my friend then and they would not even serve us water i then asked for a drink for myself as i was sober and they said no because i was with my friend who was ‘drunk’ when she wasn’t. We are 3 confident girls who love to party, we was not drunk and been served in a lot!! worse states in south the past 4 years, the NEW! staff, bouncers & manager tried to argue with us so we would have to leave the club, they made the situation worse! and would go as far to say they was bullying us and couldn’t say anything because it would be seen as drunk i will tell all my friends about how south has gone down hill. looks like people have the memo anyway, wasn’t that many people there!! wasn’t worth going out and getting terrorized of bouncers cause my friends had a couple of drinks!!!
