I stayed the weekend at St.Augustine's Abbey in September 2024 as I was looking for a place to recharge spiritually after a particularly busy period at work. I didn't know much about the Abbey before I arrived however it was immediately obviously upon arriving that this was somewhere special. Nestled in the Surrey countryside, the Abbey is on the doorstep of the Surrey Hills and the peaceful countryside setting only adds to the serenity. The guesthouse is adjoined to the main church, and the rooms and simple yet without the distraction of modern technology, provided me with one of the best nights sleep I have had in a while. The Monks and incredibly welcoming and I felt immediately at ease around them. Being so close to the church, it was easy to join in with the various services throughout the day and easy to get into the rhythm and routine of the place. I've found the whole experience really helped to created the peace, quiet and space so important in fostering a deeper relationship with God. Weather Catholic or otherwise I would highly recommend a stay at St.Augustine's Abbey and cannot wait to return.

I was staying at a bed and breakfast nearby, and during a walk I reached the Abbey. I was pretty surprised to find a Catholic monastery lost in the English countryside, and what a nice surprise. The Abbey is very beautiful and peaceful, the perfect place to relax and meet the peace of the Lord. I met one of the friars who gave me a tour and I enjoyed speaking Italian with him. Great place!

I have been staying with Benedictine monks for over 20 years but this place, is life changing. I have visited twice all the way from Seattle to this little village in Surrey. When you stay here you are enfolded in the community and prayers of the monks until their sacred rhythms become your own. I am so grateful. If you want to find Christ or become closer to Him, St Augustine's Abbey gives you a window into His peace and goodness.

Beautiful abbey and moving mass. The organist is very special and the calm and simplicity of the service in English and Latin was deeply spiritual. Coffee afterwards and a very warm welcome

A beautiful lovely Abbey in the Surry Hills. Such a prayerful and beautiful community led by the Abbot who is extremely friendly and will take the abbey forward with lots of new vocations, many people complimenting on the beauty of this place and the community and how engaged they are with local people and beyond. They have a lovely shop also which is used by the healthcare industry for their lip balms .

Quite a different experience from what was portrayed on the BBC. There's an eerie atmosphere as you drive in towards the abbey and just opposite the car park, a homeless man has set up camp in a small hut. Inside the abbey, it's nice but feels unwelcoming as the strange atmosphere continues. Perhaps it was quiet but we've been to other abbeys during the day, including Worth abbey, and felt something different. Finally, we were expecting to buy some products but there was no sign of anything or anyone. We felt let down but there's a great pub nearby.

Beautiful grounds and architecture, stunning interior and very approachable and sincere community. A really warm, friendly cross-section of people, young and older, both on the altar and in the congregation. The monks and regular attendees make you feel welcome without any overbearing whatsoever. An increasing number of families seem to attend. For music-lovers, the Gregorian chants and superb organ-playing lift the mass to another level. A very special and spiritual place to be.

I have visited St Augustine's Abbey a few times to date with my brother and sister in law and have always found my times there to be memorable. A warm welcome and environment alongside beautiful, tranquil surroundings augur for a pleasant, if not a special and calm time when spent here. I felt completely included and accepted and would highly recommend some time being spent in somewhere maybe considered rather hidden however, a wonderful secret to be discovered.
