The Side House

Stepping into the Side House feels like walking into cake heaven, where every slice is a masterpiece and every bite has a little celebration baked right in. From the warm welcome to the drool-worthy cake display, they’ve got the dessert scene on lock. These cakes aren’t just desserts—they’re experiences. Made with seasonal, local ingredients, each cake has its own vibe. One bite of the lemon drizzle, and you’re basking in eternal summer; a slice of chocolate fudge, and you’re suddenly in cozy autumn bliss. And the variety! You could come every day and still not try them all—though I’m game to give it a shot. The staff is as sweet as the cakes, and let me tell you, resisting a second (or third) helping is practically impossible. Five stars, but only because they don’t let you give ten!

First time visit to The Side House. Well worth the detour on our way to Newark. Lovely breakfast, great coffee. The staff were very friendly. The cakes looked fab, but I stayed strong!! Parking was plentiful in this pretty village. We will be back!

First time visiting after hearing good things and can say it was worth the hype. Homemade food and genuine service from lovely people. Lovely sitting outside with all the tables a good distance away from each other which is a rarity surrounded by greenery and lovely colour. If I’m being picky, the plates are a bit too small with the amount of food on them and just a suggestion to have a few more tables and chairs outdoors as all were taken and most had to sit indoors. Also chips would be a great addition to the menu ? 5/5 though we will definitely be back

Detoured off the A1 - only a few miles and worth it! Beautiful sandwiches, freshly prepared, great selection of cakes and drinks. Specials Board and breakfast options. Friendly staff. Will call again - recommended.

What a little gem! Loved our coffee and cake here this morning. We’d been recommended this place and it’s not somewhere we’d normally venture too as we live closer to Lincoln but I’d definitely make the trip again. Staff can’t do enough for you and the cakes were delicious. Beautiful location and the garden was stunning! Will be coming again with the dog when the sun is shining so we can sit outside

Another lovely visit to The Side House this time for breakfast. Had the avocado & poached eggs on sourdough and smoked salmon & scrambled eggs. Staff were very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food which was cooked to order and very tasty

Fantastic food, great choice. We were setting up wedding in hall next door and they brought the food into us when it was ready. Lovely people who went that bit extra . Much appreciated.

Great place to refuel as a cyclist. Such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
