We had an anniversary party here on a Saturday evening. Amazing service, food and event.
Sophie helped us so much with arranging it beforehand, menu, decorating, DJ, cake.
Lorna and staff on the night were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble.
36 for a meal, bespoke menu, impeccable timing and service, tasty, hearty food. See photos - onion bhaji, oxtail arancini, herb crusted salmon, beef shin and ale pie and Cricket burger - proper tasty!
Bar staff excellent too, great selection of Thornbridge and guest beers.
Would highly recommend for an event or just a nice beer and meal. Thank you the Cricket Inn!

The best dairy free lunch I’ve had.

I nipped in to The Cricket Inn for some lunch and the staff and chef couldn’t have been better. I’m recently dairy free and find it hard to find places which can accommodate and this place excelled. Not only did the chef mark which dishes could be adapted, the substitutions (chive oil over butter etc) were amazing and well thought through. They even adapted the crumble they had at the end for a dairy free sponge.

I can’t thank the folks here enough and will be making a special trip back soon.

Had a wonderful dinner date. Fried calamari was amazing. Fettuccine was fresh and delicious. Steak wasn't the best quality but was OK. It was a wonderful place outside the restaurant as well with plenty of parking, vegetable garden. Overall, it was a wonderful evening

Wow what a fab special birthday meal. Greeted by Euan at door we had reserved table, great service and so polite. The food was amazing quick service and very attentive staff. Euan and female colleague who's name i didn't catch ( sorry) were fabulous and quick to bring extras free when requested as we had a lot of starters & 3 mains.
Dishes were amazing real gastro pub food but more of a fine dining plating presentation so TOP MARKS !

We have been to the Cricket Inn three times now and every time the food is delicious. The menu is always great and the quality of the food they serve is exceptional.

We ate here last night and everything we ordered was fantastic! The fig and plum pudding was our highlight. My husband said it was the best pudding he has had in a long time! (And we eat out quite a lot!!)

I urge you to eat here, you won't be disappointed!!

Wouldn’t recommend for larger parties, or children. Won’t be returning sadly.

Honestly not great. Which is sad to say as this was an informal family meal in honour of our engagement celebrations.
We booked for 13 people, and a few days later added an extra 2, which at first they said they could not accommodate, but shortly called back and confirmed that they could fit 2 more on our table. We spoke to them several times during this process and at no point were we told that our booking would be spread across separate tables.
When we arrived, we enquired about this and explained that we had not been made aware, in which the lady responding was very dismissive and almost defensive. After a few minutes of back and forth, the lady (reluctantly) moved the tables around to fit everyone on one row. We chose to order drinks at the bar whilst people were arriving as and when, but another lady did offer us the option of coming to the table.
The barman wasn’t very forthcoming and when asked to keep the lid on one of the bottled drinks to shake the sediment at the bottom of the bottle, he proceeded to place his bare hand over the opening of the bottle (without the lid) and shake the drink against his hand, before pouring the drink into a glass. We were not impressed by any means but didn’t feel overly comfortable to say anything or ask for a replacement.
A few of us had starters, all of which ordered the calamari. It was nice, but greasy.
The mains arrived very intermittently, so a lot of us had eaten half of our food before others food had even arrived and having previously placed a preorder, the lack of organisation felt surprising. One of the meals was also wrong and needed remaking.
The food got mixed reviews from our party, one person didn’t eat any of their main (beef pie) and said it tasted old, others said it was okay and others started to lose their appetite after the calamari starter.
Puddings were probably the best part of the food. As a rule, we never remove the service charge from our bill and always tip, but on this occasion some of us asked to remove the service charge and sadly didn’t tip.
Kids did eat free on bookings before 6pm which was a bonus, but after the frosty welcome following the seating arrangement query (which seemed to set the mood for the rest of the evening)… if it wasn't for the fact that our party was for 15 people, on a Friday night, at prime time tea time, we would have definitely left there and then, and gone elsewhere. The practicalities however, of finding somewhere else as a walk in at that time for that sized party, didn’t seem very doable.
When leaving, one of our party was in a wheelchair so needed to use the disabled access entrance/exit. This is a stone built ramp leading around the back of the building to the carpark. There was very little light, which didn’t seem overly practical considering. Overall underwhelming, didn’t feel welcome, service wasn’t great (except for the one younger lady who seemed to take over our table once seated). Such a shame, but won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend for larger parties, or children.

My family took me to this lovely country pub just on the outskirts of Sheffield. Its up a small winding road and is an unexpected very popular destination dining pub. There are several small cosy rooms with open fires to just have a drink or enjoy a meal. Plus a large dining room which is still relaxed and friendly but nice enough to dress up should you like to. The whole place is dog friendly and muddy boots are expected as they border onto Derbyshire and its many walks. We were seated in the dining room and were served by friendly knowledgeable staff. As it was a Sunday lunch celebration we decided to push out the boat and have three courses. I started with a melange of celeriac including remoulade of celeriac, puree, and

Former favourite but not been for a while. Turned up without booking at noon on Sunday but there was plenty of space and we were served quickly. Went for the beef shin & potato pie and was relieved to see a proper pie (with sides) arrive. This was up there with best pies I’ve ever had and clearly a lot of effort goes into the food. With more gravy and seasoning we could have been looking a one of the best pie dishes around but still - this was top quality. The side order of cauliflower cheese was also excellent. Beer was a quaffable bitter by nearby Thornbridge brewery in Bakewell.

This place has been knocking out quality food for years now and is well worth a trip out to. A walk around nearby Blackamoor Nature Reserve is also a must.
